Sad after-bath puppy.

Wow, haven't updated for awhile!

She's started her puppy classes and is doing pretty great. We've been going for two weeks now and it's providing pretty awesome socialization and training foundations.

She's 14 weeks old now, too! Wow, time flies. There hasn't been any craziness, but she's growing like a weed - she's 10lbs-ish, probably a bit over by now. She's actually starting to look like a little dog instead of a puppy, haha.

She's been driving me nutty with some bad habits - barking a lot and she's still pretty nippy - but she's starting to calm down and get more affectionate. She still has her CRAZYPUPPY zoomies every morning and night, though she's sleeping through the night completely now.

We had a pretty awesome trip to Barton Springs and she went swimming! Pictures exist, but they're on Adam's camera and he doesn't have a cable, so hopefully I'll be able to post them soon. Or get ones of my own next time we go. :)

Nova went to the vet today and got her last round of shots, yaaay!

She's been doing well. Some accidents still now and then, but she's gotten better at telling me when she needs to go out. She's been full of energy lately, so I'm hoping that we'll be able to go to the dog park and stuff now that she's had her shots. Just have to wait about a week and she'll be good to go!

We had an adventure these past couple days.

My boyfriend and I went to my parent's house this weekend to take a fishing trip and just hang out. Nova went with us, and she got to romp in their huge back yard and absolutely loved it.

Their dog, Lady, is an old lab mix - we think maybe lab/pit - and is the most patient dog on the face of the earth. She babysat the hyperactive little puppy like a pro. Lady is 12 and a little too old and creaky to be romping with puppy, but she let her clamber all over her.

She didn't actually go out on the boat with us, obviously. She stayed at the house and my parents puppysat. My dad had her out in the yard playing the entire time. I had one exhausted puppy on the drive home, haha.

Busy week.

I bought her the exercise pen so she can roam without me worrying about her peeing on the carpet. It's working! She's also started going to the door when she needs to go.

Her new favorite game is frolicking in her water dish - digging, splashing with her muzzle, etc. It's cute, but so much water everywhere!

She has 'sit' and 'down' pretty much learned, and we're working on 'drop it'. She's picking up on it, but is sometimes slow to 'get' it when she's really riled up.

She's getting pretty barky and has been harassing the kitties, so we're working on that, too.

Also, cute video!

She loves her Kong!

Fetch!

New video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZbZoP_ILys

She's coming along well. She had 1 accident today that was my fault (I let her off leash for 2 minutes and she ran to the office and peed). Lesson learned, restrict freedom a bit more.

Bite inhibition is going well! She's learning.

Her diarrhea issues seem to be resolving and she's eating better. She lost some ground on her training because I couldn't feed her treats for awhile until her tummy settled, but since that's getting better we had a short training session today! Yay!

1 week marker.

Wow, has it seriously been over a week now?

Last night was pretty rough - she was being a huge pest while I was trying to get work done, and she howled nonstop in her crate. She had an accident yesterday, and one accident today, whups. She's doing alright, though, and starting to whine/bark at me when she needs to go out.

She was a little under the weather yesterday morning, mostly just with a bit of diarrhea and junk, and then she barfed once. I think the barfing was because of the dewormer, though. Uggggh.

All in all, though, things are going well! Just tired.

She got her tags in today!

Clearly, dogs hate crates.

Vet time!

Well, predictably, she checked out fine at the vet's. I'm still concerned about the whole diarrhea thing, but the vet seemed to think that it was mostly just a food/stress issue. If it doesn't resolve soon I'll take her in.

She's pretty tiny for a corgi; she weighed in at 4.5 lbs at just under 9 weeks.

Other than that, things have been pretty routine! When Adam got here last night she turned into CRAZYPUPPY and started sprinting laps around my apartment. Zooooooooom.

Day 5 and 6

No accidents either day so far!

She's started to get a bit more mischievous and is "testing" me more. She's also not eating real well, and I'm pretty sure the additions I put in have given her a bit of mild diarrhea, so those are getting cut out for now.

'Sit' and 'Down' are both pretty good and we worked on 'Puppy Push-Ups ' earlier (sit-down-sit), and she seems to like the work and the learning.

I'm still concerned about the appetite along with the now-diarrhea. I'm sure the poops are from her switching foods, but I still wish she would eat more and then I would be more comfortable about it.

She has a vet appointment tomorrow morning so I'll ask him about it.

Puppy-Kitty relations.

Complete with kitty laser-eyes...

Also, another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDUyGJWnnK0

Sylvester tolerates. He still isn't fond of Nova, but he's okay with her being around. Cricket still avoids.

Day three and four.

Day three was crazy. Puppy woke up in a SUPERACTIVEHYPERYAY mood, and this combined with me being new to this and not recognizing her signs resulted in three accidents before noon. Whups.

She was a huge handful for most of the day, but Adam came over later and we wore her out with a long walk and some running and playing. There was one more accident later at night, but then she went to bed and slept most the night.

Yesterday there were no accidents yay! She was quiet and good all morning and all day, but at night got the puppy zoomies and drove me batty. Chewing on the couch, me, her leash, basically everything she wasn't supposed to. I also finally figured out how to make her eat, which is awesome - a tiny bit of chicken broth or tuna water in her food turns her into a little puppy hoover. Unfortunately she still won't eat without it, but I hope I'll be able to wean her off of the extra stuff soon.

This morning has been good so far! She's a little hyper, but I brought her home a new toy when I went shopping and she's Enthused. She also got a bath this morning, because she has fleas. D: Her vet appointment is for Saturday morning for vaccinations, so she'll get actual flea meds then. Until then, flea combs and Dawn dish soap baths. D:

She's starting to 'get' walking on the leash, too, though she still wanders around and balks a lot.

Life is hard when you're a puppy.

Day two

She woke me up twice during the night for bathroom, once at 4 AM and again at 6:45. Luckily she went quickly both times and settled quickly. The second time was close to 7 AM so I made her breakfast and stayed up long enough for her to eat, took her out again so she could poop, and then went back in. She settled quickly without much crying and let me sleep until close to 10 AM.

No accidents today. She slept a good portion of the day, interspersed with many potty breaks and a couple short play sessions. Took her out again at 4:30, then went to class. A friend came over at 7 to take her out, and she went easily. Got back home at 9:45 PM, let her out, and then fed her and played for about an hour. THEN I got to eat dinner.

She's picked up sit like a pro and already has it on voice command. She's about 1 in 4 for down. Started on 'leave it' today, too, but it's too early to tell progress.

She's started to get a bit mouthy, but 'yelping' and giving her a toy to chew instead gets the point across. She has a bad habit of trying to jump up and bite hair, so that's gonna need to stop ASAP!

She likes to be with me - right now she's sleeping on my foot. If I sit on the floor during playtime she wants to be in my lap. It's very, very cute, but I'm gonna try to encourage a little more independence. She also won't eat unless she's near me. I'm hoping this will change as she gets older and more confident, as I'm sort of at a loss on what to do otherwise.

She barfed once today, but it was seconds after eating and just lumpy kibble so I think she just wolfed down some food too fast. Still, gonna keep an eye on her and make sure she's not coming down with something.

Otherwise, I'm pretty tired but she's been a super good puppy, all considered. The kitties are accepting her more and even sniffed noses, and they'll walk past her and let her walk past them without fussing. She tried to pounce Sylvester's tail and got hissed at, though. :P

Day one.

Well, here's how it went!

I went to the breeder's, and we discussed options. I decided that I wasn't ready to tackle a puppy with possible health issues, and so I was introduced to the girl that she hadn't sold yet (the people who were going to get her backed out).

Long story short, she was a super sweet, sociable little puppy, and I decided to go with her.

Car ride home went great, she slept most of the way aside from a few wake-ups to play and beg for attention.

First night actually went remarkably well. She had one accident right when I got her home, but then she slept most the night. I woke up around 4:30 AM and took her out, she went quickly and then cried for about ~20 minutes before settling down and going back to sleep. Adam stayed the night and was amazingly patient with the crying puppy. <3 Woke up at around 8:30 and took her out again, had to rush her outside but she made it. The rest of this morning has been a mixture of playing, puppy napping, and taking her outside when she needs it. I have her tethered close by me in the living room at the moment, and she's been good. My cats were actually shockingly okay with her. They're fine with her getting within about a foot of them without hissing, but if she tries to play with them they hiss and she gets the hint and leaves them alone. She's still not eating a bunch (she eats but not very much) but I'm hoping that's just stress. (And yes, that's a puppy pad in the pic. No, it's not being used for those purposes. I bought a small pack of them for $3 for the ride home so me or the car didn't get peed on, and now they're being used to keep her from sloshing water on the floor.) I'm not planning on free-feeding, these are just from breakfast time.

Dubious cat is dubious.

Baby's first corgi flop.

A couple videos.

Forgive the background mess, I just moved a couple weeks ago. Still in the process of unpacking the bedroom.

These were both taken right after dinnertime, hence the food on the bottom of the crate. She's a bit of a fussy eater and pulls out the kibble as she's eating.

She's picking up stuff so fast. I'm using sample-sized rolls of Natural Balance cut up into tiny chunks as training treats and she goes bananas over them. She's already associated clicker with 'treat' and has started picking up on sit. I've been treating her when she potties outside and she even came up to me and whined earlier when she had to go!
